Painted Cherry Heart Pies
I saw these viral beautiful heart bites from @hartandflora and I wanted to make them immediately. It’s my first time painting on pastry and I was pleasantly surprised at how well they turned out! I will definitely be painting more pastries in the future now that I’ve fully tested it out.
Ingredients:
Pie crust
For the paint:
Wilton Gel Colors - you can buy the pack but I used pink, yellow, green, and red.
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400–425°F (depending on your pie crust instructions).Cut the Hearts
Roll out the pie crust and use the heart cutter to cut an equal number of heart shapes (one for the top and one for the bottom). For instance, if you want 5 filled pastries, cut out 10 hearts.Fill and Seal
Place a dollop of cherry preserves in the center of one heart, then top with another heart. Use a fork to crimp and seal the edges.Prepare the Edible Paint
On a piece of parchment paper, mix a small amount of white food coloring into your gel colors to help them pop. Use separate brushes for each color (or stick to a single color scheme for convenience).Paint Your Designs
Let your creativity shine—paint bows, wildflowers, extra hearts, or any design you like onto the top crust.Bake
Place the pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 10–15 minutes (or until golden brown). Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
