Heart Letters

Make an edible heart letter. These sweet, cherry-filled pastry hearts are not only beautiful but delicious—and they’re surprisingly simple to make. Perfect for a special occasion or just to show a little extra love in your everyday baking!

Ingredients

  • Puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

  • Fresh cherries, pitted (a metal straw works well for pitting)

  • Sugar (to taste)

Tools

  • Heart-shaped cutters

  • Fork

  • Knife or pastry wheel

Instructions

  1. Make the Cherry Filling

    • Pit the cherries and place them in a small saucepan with a little sugar.

    • Cook over medium heat until the cherries soften and release their juices.

    • Mash them gently for a smoother filling, then set aside to cool.

  2. Preheat and Prep

    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

    • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into bite-sized rectangles or squares.

  3. Form the “Envelope”

    • Spoon a little of the cherry filling onto each piece of pastry.

    • Fold the corners inward to create an envelope shape.

    • Use a small heart-shaped piece of puff pastry to “seal” the envelope at the center if you’d like.

    • Alternatively, leave the “envelope” open for a peek of the cherry filling.

  4. Optional Egg Wash

    • For a richer color and a bit of shine, lightly brush the pastries with a beaten egg.

  5. Bake

    • Arrange the pastries on a lined baking sheet.

    • Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until they’re puffed and golden.

Enjoy these mini puff pastry “love letters” warm from the oven. Add a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of chocolate for an extra-sweet touch!

With Love,

Cristina
