Decoden Japantown, San Francisco

Want to try something fun on a date with your significant other or best friend in San Francisco? Have a go at decoder in iFun Japan Center in Japantown Mall! It’s my new obsession, it’s so cute. You can decorate so many different items in an aesthetic way; it looks like frosting on a cake! 🍰

Tray with different kinds of charms you can get at Decoden Japantown. It's filled with Sanrio characters, food items like waffles and donuts. It's all kawaii style.

You pay upfront and choose an item to decorate, but after that you have unlimited time to design to your heart’s content! And… unlimited charms!! They’re SO cute, there’s an amazing variety of Sanrio characters, bows, food items, there’s something for everyone.

You get to choose two types of ‘frosting’ for your item, the staff is incredibly helpful and will guide you through the steps.
I’d recommend bringing some reference pics with you, so you know what you like beforehand. It’s the easiest to start with a color scheme, for example pink, green or blue. Then choose charms that fit the color scheme you went for and choose a matching or enhancing color for your frosting! You can arrange your charms on the table to figure out the layout that you want. It’s so cute as a date activity, but it’s also very fun to do with your girlfriends!

It does get crowded on weekends, so try to go early to avoid the big crowds! When it gets busy, items can sometimes run out, but you can also bring your own. So no worries if you have a really specific phone (case) they might not have, you can bring it and still create the cutest case ever. It takes around four hours to dry, and then it’s ready to take home! (to go take cute mirror selfies to show off the new case, of course 🤫) 🌸
